Gathering of members of the Bolshevik Party.

A communist party is a political party based on the principles of communism and intended to constitute the working class into a party consistent with its class interests, with the abolition of private property as a main objective. The theoretical conclusions of the communist party are based on the existing relations of production and the class antagonisms that they create.

Communist parties operating in accord with Marxism–Leninism premise themselves off democratic centralism and work with the intention of becoming the leading vanguard organization for the masses to advance revolutionary goals.[1]

Mechanisms

The communist party has multiple mechanisms by which is connects with the wider working class to perform the tasks of consolidating the dictatorship of the proletariat. Without these mechanisms, the working class would suffer inevitable defeat at the hands of the bourgeoisie.[2]

Trade unions

Trade unions are non-party organizations which involve a large amount of field relating to industry, culture, and education. Trade unions unite and are composed of workers from various fields. Trade unions are a "school of communism", allowing the best workers to develop administrative skills and generally forming a "transmission belt" between the proletariat and its vanguard organization, the party.

Workers' councils

Soviets, or workers' councils, develop as non-party organization in a large variety of areas, including economic, political, military, etc. Soviets unite the workers of urban and rural areas and directly represent their interests to the party. The soviets are a core component of the dictatorship of the proletariat.

Cooperatives

Cooperatives are non-party mass organizations of workers and peasants in both industrial and agricultural fields. Cooperatives function in a critical role in socialist construction, allowing contact between the peasantry and vanguard and integrating the peasants into the socialist project.

Youth organizations

Youth organizations are the mass organizations composed of young workers and peasants. Although largely a non-party organization, youth organizations are directly linked and associated with the communist party. Youth organizations disseminate administrative abilities as well as socialist education to the youth of the society.

Vanguard

The vanguard of the proletariat is found in the communist party. The vanguard organization is composed of the best, most politically educated segments of the working class. It leads and combines the work of all the mass organizations to a single revolutionary goal in accord with the proletariat's class interests. The vanguard has a leading role in the dictatorship of the proletariat.

Composition

The membership of a communist party is comprised of revolutionaries who are sincerely committed to the struggle towards the transformation of capitalism into socialist society through social revolution. Further, there are high requirements for the character and capabilities of party member. They should be, for the most part, drawn from the working class itself, be closely linked with the rest of the working class, and represent and promote the interests of the working class and especially their central interest in social revolution.
