Homelessness refers to a lack of stable, permanent, and livable housing. Under capitalism, homelessness is an endemic social issue, with housing being privatized and treated as a commodity to be sold and maintained for profit by landlords and capitalists and not regarded as a human need.[1] In socialist states, housing was treated as a right and homelessness was largely eliminated.[2]
