Revolupedia is an ever-growing collection and information relevant to a diverse range of topics. To help new contributors adjust to our project, here are some basic elements about editing the encyclopedia which you should know.

Getting started

To begin editing, simply click either the "edit" or "edit source" tabs on the top of the page.

Formatting

Capitalization

Follow English rules relating to capitalization, including in the title. If it is a proper noun, always capitalize it. For example, compare Union of Soviet Socialist Republics with Soviet (government body). The former is the name of a country (a proper noun), whereas "government body" is not a proper noun.

References

References or citations are generally in the form of inline footnotes.[1] This aids readers in seeing where a claim is attributing its source in an easy manner.

  1. Like this.

References get a special section at the bottom of the page: ==References== in the source editor. Immediately under this section, put a reference list to tell the software where to put the references. In the source editor, simply does this by placing <references /> or {{Reflist}} under the references section. In visual editor, you may just add it in the "insert" tab.

Be certain to put references after the punctuation mark if at the end of a sentence; like this,[2] but not this[2].

Links

Linking between pages is a core aspect of Revolupedia and helps readers easily find related content. To add a link to another Revolupedia page in the source editor, put a pair of two square brackets between the page in question on each side, e.g. [[Marxism–Leninism]].

Content

Tone

Use an encyclopedic tone at all times, with the exclusion of, for instance, talk pages. Avoid un-encylopedic languages (e.g. first-person pronouns; "I") and be mindful of the fact that any and all content on the encyclopedia represents our project and The Red Spectre as a whole.

Importing

Imported content (content copied to here from another website) should be deliberated indicated as such whenever possible, and plagiarism is strictly prohibited. To indicate that a page is imported or has large portions of imported content, add {{Imported content}} with the relevant parameters such as a link to the source material.

All imported content is subjected to the same ideological expectations as original content. Please account for this when importing from a website such as Wikipedia, where anti-communist and pro-capitalist views are prevalent in its content. In the case of unacceptable content, remove or alter it to be in accord with our principles, while still attributing the original version.
