The hammer and sickle used on the 1936 flag of the Soviet Union.

The hammer and sickle[a] is a revolutionary symbol used by members and parties of communist and other working class organizations to represent solidarity and unity between the urban and rural proletariat. The hammer and sickle was adopted as an official symbol of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics in 1923, and since then has gained widespread popularity and adoption across the international communist movement.[1]
