The precariat refers to a section of the working class who are in a near-constant state of socioeconomic uncertainty. It is derived from the words precarious and proletariat.[1] The precariat in capitalist society continually grows larger due to the mode of production's inherent tendency towards economic crisis, demanding a segment of the working class to labor in "gig work" and suffer from chronic unemployment.[2]
