The International Monetary Fund represents a major neo-colonial organ.

Neo-colonialism is a form of capitalist-imperialism under which old forms of colonial subjugation (e.g. the open military conquest and annexation of land) are replaced by indirect means of control. With neo-colonialism, the exploited country retains its formal independence from the exploiting country yet is still bound to it in various ways, including debt entrapment, indirect military support, and the installment of puppet leaders and a comprador government beholden to the imperialist country.[1]

Neo-colonialism emerged from older forms of colonial bondage in the middle of the 1950s with the nominal decolonization of Africa and counties as the primary mode of imperialism into the modern day. Instances of neo-colonial projects include the European Union and Belt and Road Initiative.
