Alexandra Kollontai[a] (31 March [O.S. 19 March] 1872 – 9 March 1952) was a Soviet revolutionary, writer, and diplomat. She served as People's Commissar of Social Welfare of the Russian SFSR from 1917 to 1918 and the Soviet ambassador to multiple countries, including Norway, Mexico, and Sweden. She was an important female member of the Bolshevik Party, the first woman in history to be a cabinet minister, and the first woman ambassador.
