Anarcho-capitalism is a reactionary, extreme-right libertarian political ideology which advocates the total abolition of the state while preserving and maximizing private ownership of the means of production. Anarcho-capitalism fails to understand the nature of the state as a tool for the preservation of capitalism rather than an opponent to it.

Despite the insistence of modern anarcho-capitalists, their tendency shares little in common with true anarchism, which seeks to abolish all unjust hierarchies while anarcho-capitalists merely seek to abolish the government while preserving oppressive institutions. Its foundational theorists, such as Murray Rothbard, rejected any association with anarchism.
