Jason Unruhe,[b] founder and contributor to Maoist Rebel News, is a Canadian revisionist YouTuber who is best known for his years-long promotion of Maoism-Third Worldism and other deviations disguised as "political" and "news commentary." As of July 2025, Unruhe's YouTube channel has over 43,400 subscribers and 32,161,451 views, although his recent content rarely exceeds 2,000 views.[2]

Controversies

Chauvinism against First Worlders

Unruhe also believes First Worlders are "parasites" because their wages and social services come from value generated by Third World exploitation.[3]

On the 13th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, Jason Unruhe published a video which claimed that the thousands of victims of the attacks, most of whom being working class, "deserved" their fates and condemned them.[4] After an arsonist killed 33 people and injured 36 at Kyoto Animation Studio in 2019, Unruhe stated on Twitter "Not all heroes wear capes. Anti-degeneracy gang rise up."[5]

Distortions of Marxism

Unruhe regularly uses the term "first worldist" against his enemies, and claims the First World lacks revolutionary potential. He distorts Marxist class analysis by claiming the workers of the First World are not proletarians due to the superprofits they receive from imperialism, effectively arguing from a liberal position that class is based on income level as opposed to relations to the means of production.[6]

Anti-LGBTQ+ bigotry

Jason Unruhe has been vocal in denouncing "SJWs" and identity politics, which he believes is "garbage" and relegated to the "First World". He believes that identity politics is a useless diversion from class struggle and was malevolently introduced by "Western Maoists." He has regularly used homophobic and other bigoted language.[7]

By the 2020s, Jason Unruhe would relax his anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric for opportunistic reasons, seeking to distance himself from Caleb Maupin and other "patriotic socialists".
