Salvador Guillermo Allende Gossens (26 June 1908 – 11 September 1973) was a Chilean doctor and socialist politician who has been described as the first "Marxist" president to be elected in a liberal democracy in Latin America.
Allende sought to nationalize and socialize the Chilean economy. He formed a coalition government.
