Crisanto Abaño Evangelista (November 1, 1888 – June 2, 1942) was a Filipino communist and labor leader, who declared the creation of the original Communist Party of the Philippines in August 26, 1930, which was later founded on November 7, 1930, the 13th anniversary of the October Revolution. He opposed American and Japanese imperialism and was responible for building the labor movement in the Philippines. He was arrested by the Kempeitai in 1942 and was executed, not long after drafting an Anti- Japanese People's Democratic Government.[1] His legacy is still celebrated by many in the Filipino Left and by the refounded Communist Party of the Philippines under Jose Maria Sison.
