The First World, also known as the imperial core, is a grouping of the most wealthy, developed imperialist nations. The First World is traditionally in inter-imperialist competition with the Second World and heavily exploits the Third World, using superprofits gained by its imperial plunder as a form of social bribery to attempt to render the proletariat of the First World complacent to the actions of their bourgeoisie. This social bribery creates a relatively large labor aristocracy, or a sub-stratum of workers who are paid from imperialist plunder.

The leading country in the First World has, since the Second World War, been the United States of America, but that position has more recently been contested with the European Union. The concept of the First World is often synonymous with the West.
