The Russian Federation, commonly known as Russia, is a capitalist and imperialist state primarily located Eastern Europe and North Asia. Since its founding in 1991 during the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the Russian Federation has become one of the foremost imperialist superpowers in the modern world.[1][2]
Imperialism
The Russian Federation is a modern imperialist power, with the country being dominated by monopolies and corporate syndicates. Based on the official statistics of the Russian state, the top 600 firms in Russia account for over 70% of Russia GDP. Furthermore, there exists a clear fusion of banking and industrial capital in Russia, with massive banking firms such as Sberbank holding vast economic assets worth billions of rubles.[2]
Russian capitalists engage in large-scale exploitation of surrounding countries, with billions of rubles worth of capital being exported to post-Soviet countries alone.[3] For instance, Gazprom has subsidiaries in 36 countries outside of Russia. Russia maintains its imperialist exploitation through military means, occupying and otherwise deploying troops to Ukraine and Syria. This is in tandem with leading its own military-imperialist alliance, the Collective Security Treaty Organization.[4]
