Ukraine[a] is an imperialized country in Eastern Europe. It is the second largest country in Europe behind the Russian Federation, with a claimed land area of 603,628 km2. Prior to 2022, the country had a population of 41,442,615.[b][1]
Currently, Ukraine is embroiled in an inter-imperialist war which began in 2022 but had its origins in 2014 with the Maidan uprisings, in which far-right groups overthrew the pro-Russian comprador government and installed a pro-Western one in its place, which resulted in uprising by pro-Russian nationalists in the Donbas. As of 2026, Russia claims 5 of Ukraine's oblasts (regions) as its own.
