The Communist Party of the Philippines[a] (CPP) is a revolutionary communist party in the Philippines which upholds Marxism–Leninism–Maoism. Whilst an old party was founded by Crisanto Evangelista, it has since then fallen into pro-Soviet right-opportunism. It was later refounded by Jose Maria Sison on 26 December 1968, the Birthday of Mao Zedong, on the line of Mao Zedong Thought against the old party's revisionism.
The CPP, through its armed wing, the New People's Army, is currently waging a protracted people's war against the Filipino government to establish a socialist state. The National Democratic Front of the Philippines became its political wing in 1973.
