Juche (also known as Kimilsungism–Kimjongilism or the Juche Idea) is a revisionist, social-chauvinist, and social-fascist ideology and the official state ideology of North Korea (DPRK). Although Juche was initially described by Kim Il-sung as a development of Marxism–Leninism applied to Korea's conditions,[1] his son Kim Jong-il later admitted it was an entirely new philosophy.[1] In 1992, the North Korean constitution began eliminating all traces to Marxism–Leninism.[1] Kim Jong-il described Marxism–Leninism as "outdated" and said that it had "historical limitations".[2]

Juche sees the "popular masses" as the "subjects of history". In addition to denying classes and class struggle, this analysis is revisionist because it denies the role material conditions play in shaping societal development. Juche claims to be scientific[3] but in practice, its core tenets run counter to scientific socialism. In addition to this, Juche also maintains national chauvinist and racialist stances, regarding a multi-racial society as being a "poison" to the Korean nation.[4]
