Historical materialism is the Marxist conception of history and the development of society. It applies the principles of dialectical materialism to the fields of sociology, economics, and politics. Historical materialism provides a holistic framework which understands human society to be constantly changing and developing in accordance to motive forces such as the development of the productive forces and class struggle and the transition between modes of production.[1]
