The People's Republic of Peru,[a] also known as the People's Republic of New Democracy or New Democratic Republic,[b] is an embryonic socialist state intended to replace the bourgeois Republic of Peru. It is led by the Communist Party of Peru and controlled up to 60% of the country at its apex. The nascent state mostly fell in 1999 following the capture of the Central Committee. Although it still exists in the Base Mantaro Rojo.
