Enver Hoxha, the namesake of Hoxhaism

Hoxhaism is a term used by anti-revisionist Marxist–Leninists to refer to followers of Enver Hoxha and the Party of Labor of Albania more broadly. It represents a revisionist trend, specifically referring to those who fit into one of the following categories:[1]

  • Those who uphold Enver Hoxha as a classic of Marxism, believing his supposed theoretical contributions are of the same qualitative importance as revolutionary theorists such as Karl Marx or Vladimir Lenin; often accompanied by cultish appraisals of his personality.
  • The leadership of organizations which uphold Hoxha to a lesser extent than the above, but neglect any attempts to ascertain the errors in the sphere of internationalism and foreign policy, that neglect any investigation or mention of them. Organizations of this category include the American Party of Labor and others.[2]
  • Those who justify, apologize, or otherwise obfuscate the grievous lapses in principle committed by Hoxha, despite being fully aware of them — instead of merely not knowing of them in the first place. In other words — upholding him despite the knowledge of what he did.

Hoxhaism has also been used by other revisionists as a derogatory term against Marxism–Leninists, in doing so misrepresenting Marxism–-Leninism. This use of the term in such a way is not based in science.
