The Federal Republic of Germany,[a] commonly known as Germany, is an imperialist state located in Central Europe. It is bordered by France, Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands to its west, Denmark to its north, Poland and the Czech Republic to its east, and Switzerland and Austria to its south. It is one of the most populous states in Europe with a population exceeding 84 million.[1]
The modern German state is a continuation of West Germany, a capitalist state formed from the portions of Germany occupied by the Western imperialists after the Second World War in contrast to the socialist East. The Western government heavily collaborated with Nazi and other reactionary elements while repressing communists within its borders.[2]After the unification of Germany in 1990, the country grew to become one of the foremost imperialist powers in Europe, being an influential member of the European Union and North Atlantic Treaty Organization and imperializing countries in Eastern Europe to sustain a social democratic state.[3]
