Canada is a capitalist and settler-colonial country located in North America. It is a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and Commonwealth of Nations. It is the second largest country in terms of geographical area and is bordered by the United States to its south and northwest via Alaska.
Similar to other settler countries such as the neighboring United States, Canada was founded as a colonial project by the French and later British Empire starting in the 17th and 18th centuries. As of 2021, indigenous peoples only make up 5% of the population of Canada.[1]
