Ho Chi Minh was a Vietnamese revolutionary and statesman who served as the first president of North Vietnam from 1945 to 1969. He was born Nguyen Sinh Cung on May 19, 1890, in Kimlien, Annam. As president, he oversaw North Vietnam and struggled against the US-backed government of South Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh died on September 3, 1969.[1]
