State atheism

State atheism is a policy undertaken by revolutionary states to curtail the spread of religion. State atheism as implemented in socialist states relegates religion to a purely personal matter while targeting reactionary clergy. State atheism diverges from the secularism found in liberal countries in that the state actively promotes pro-scientific and anti-religious sentiments.
