Revolupedia is an online revolutionary communist encyclopedia founded in June 2024.[1] It offers content relating to historical and current events and tendencies, Maoist theory and ideology, and many other topics along with a library hosting revolutionary literature.[2]

Etymology

During the project's conception, various names were considered, but Revolupedia was eventually decided upon. Revolupedia is a blend of revolution and encyclopedia, a name which reflects Revolupedia's nature as a general-purpose revolutionary communist compendium which operates on the basis of encyclopedic standards.

History

Creation

Revolupedia was founded on June 22, 2024. It was initially a project operated by the Red Spectre organization, created to expand its educational initiatives. The concept for a collaborative Marxist–Leninist MediaWiki site was developed and implemented by Saula Wenger, who continues to serve as the main administrator of the project to the present.

During the initial part of its existence, most of Revolupedia's editors came from Leftypedia, a project which had purged almost all Marxist–Leninist editors in June 2024.

Development

Between late 2024 to early 2025, Revolupedia would expand the size and scope of its content considerably, including the creation of a freely-accessible library of communist works, collected quotations from major Marxist thinkers, and a dedicated space for essays by Revolupedia editors. On February 22, 2025, the dissolution of the Communist Labor Organization (the successor to the Red Spectre) allowed Revolupedia to become an independent project; its ideological line, editorship, etc. were now derived from its own community rather than that of a separate organization. In March 2025, Revolupedia started hosting a regular study group on its Discord server to further promote Marxist education.[3]

In June 2025, Revolupedia would undergo a rectification in its ideological positions. This initially manifested as adopting "anti-revisionist unity", but that approach was later found to be unworkable. Later, on November 15, 2025, Marxism–Leninism–Maoism was adopted as the sole guiding ideology of Revolupedia.
