Venezuela, officially the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela,[a] is a capitalist state located in South America. It has been fasely called "socialist" by anti-communists and third-worldists, the former of whom regard it as a "failure of socialism".[1][2] Venezuela has been ruled by Nicolas Maduro since 2013, after taking over from the left-wing military general Hugo Chavez. Chavez and Maduro has led Venezuela under the ideologies of Bolivarianism, Chavismo, and Socialism of the 21st Century, social democratic and capitalist ideologies common amongst democratic socialists in Latin America.
Venezuela claims to be an "anti-imperialist" state, but has aligned itself with the Russian and Chinese camp of imperialism alongside Cuba, and the Iranian led Axis of Resistance.[3][4]
