Yao Wenyuan (Chinese: 姚文元, January 12, 1931 – December 23, 2005) was a politician, Communist revolutionary, In April 1969, he joined the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party and was a member of the Gang of Four during the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution until the October 6 Coup. He was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment in 1981 and became the last surviving member of the Gang of Four.
