A cultural revolution is a theory in Marxism–Leninism–Maoism which seeks the continuation of the proletarian revolution under socialism and is launched to suppress attempts at capitalist restoration. It is carried out against backward societal customs and institutions, as well as corrupt, reactionary, or incompetent officials within the government or party, who represent the capitalist line.
