A cultural revolution is a theory in Marxism–Leninism–Maoism which seeks the continuation of the proletarian revolution under socialism and is launched to suppress attempts at capitalist restoration. It is carried out against backward societal customs and institutions, as well as corrupt, reactionary, or incompetent officials within the government or party, who represent the capitalist line.
The theory of the cultural revolution was applied in China from the period of 1966 to 1976, known as the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution.
