Das Kapital (Capital), a foundational work in Marxist economic theory.

Marxist economics represents the political economy of Marxist theory. Marxist economics incorporated the highest achievements of previous economic thought and creatively reworked them in accordance with dialectical and historical materialism. Besides the developments made by Karl Marx (e.g. in Capital) Friedrich Engels and Vladimir Lenin made enormous contributions to the economic theory of Marxism. Marxist economics enumerates the aspects of a mode of production, such as the role of surplus-value in capitalist exploitation.[1]

"These two great discoveries, the materialist conception of history and the revelation of the secret of capitalistic production through surplus-value, we owe to Marx. With these discoveries socialism became a science. The next thing was to work out all its details and relations."
