Imperialism and the Revolution[a] is a theoretical work written by Enver Hoxha, the leader of the People's Socialist Republic of Albania in 1978. The publication of this work was a catalyst for the Sino-Albanian split, as it fiercely condemned Mao Zedong Thought along with other movements he regarded as revisionist.
Description
Imperialism and the Revolution was first published in Albania in April 1978 among the Party of Labor of Albania. The book is divided into two parts with over 300 pages. In this book, Hoxha attacks Mao Zedong Thought as being a deviation from Marxism-Leninism and "an anti-Marxist theory" alongside the "theory of the three worlds" as "a counter-revolutionary chauvinist theory".[1]
Reaction
The work is often considered by Hoxhaists and anti-revisionist Marxist–Leninists generally as being a critical work in Hoxha's bibliography. However, many supporters of Mao Zedong Thought and modern Maoists view it as an unprincipled and dogmato-revisionist assault on Mao. One example is Beat Back the Dogmato-Revisionist Attack on Mao Tsetung Thought by J. Werner, in which he alleges that the work is composed of "the worst type of blatant misquotations, distortions and downright lies."
